Hello

My journey into mental health began from a very personal place. As an international student from China, I came to the United States to pursue my education and eventually build my career in mental health. Living between cultures opened my eyes to how differently people understand emotional struggles, family, relationships, identity, and even what it means to ask for help.

Through my education, clinical work, and experiences working with people from different backgrounds, I came to understand that mental health challenges are often shaped by more than what we see on the surface. Culture, family expectations, language, immigration experiences, relationships, and the environments we grow up in can all influence how we experience and express distress. Sometimes, people are struggling deeply but have never had a space where their experiences could be understood without judgment.

That realization became one of the reasons I founded Safe Mind Counseling.

What you can expect from me

My clinical work is grounded in empathy, cultural awareness, and evidence-based approaches. I work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions, ADHD, autism, and other challenges that can make life feel overwhelming or disconnected from who they want to be. I believe therapy is not about telling someone how they should live. It is about helping people understand themselves, recognize the patterns that may be keeping them stuck, and discover what meaningful change looks like for them. When you work with me, I want therapy to feel like a place where you can be honest without worrying about being judged, misunderstood, or told what you should do. I don't believe therapy is simply about talking about what happened. I want to help you understand why you respond the way you do, what keeps certain patterns going, and what you can actually do differently. This also means I tailor the way we work together to you—not simply to a diagnosis. I draw from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed therapy, and other therapeutic approaches, selecting and integrating techniques based on your individual needs, goals, and readiness for change.

My experience as an international student also shaped my passion for bridging cultural divides in mental health. I know that seeking help can feel different depending on where you come from, what you were taught about emotions, and what your family or culture expects from you. Sometimes, finding your voice begins with simply having someone willing to listen without immediately judging, fixing, or defining your experience.

I founded Safe Mind Counseling because I believe everyone deserves a place where their story can be heard. And I continue to practice because I believe meaningful change begins with the relationship we build with the person sitting in front of us.

Whether you are trying to understand your anxiety, heal from something that happened in the past, navigate a relationship, adjust to a new chapter of life, or simply figure out why you no longer feel like yourself, you do not have to have all the answers before you begin.

You just need a safe place to start. And I would like to offer you this invitation to come home to yourself.
